Firefighters have completed the Hazardous Materials Technician 80 hour Class

9/23/20241 month ago

This very intense, 80 hour training program, sponsored by the IAFF, includes classroom, situation analysis, chemistry, physics, tactics & strategy, as well as hands-on skills solving hazmat release problems, control of hazardous materials, rescue, decon, rapid intervention, and much more.

Twenty-two Boston and Cambridge firefighters participated. (Ten were Cambridge Firefighters).

All firefighters in the class rotated through the various assignments and positions. Everyone spent time on breathing air in a fully-encapsulated entry suit, while performing tasks in simulated hazardous and life-threatening environments.

As in all firefighting operations, the skills are all about teamwork!

The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Hazardous Materials Technician course ran for two weeks, Sept 9 thru Sept 20, at the Boston Fire Special Ops/HazMat/Tech Rescue training facility.

Thank you to the instructors and the special ops staff for the dedication and for sharing the knowledge and experience.

"Every Call is a Potential HazMat Call."
