Members of the Cambridge Police Department joined dozens of participants from the Cambridge life sciences community for an informal 5K run/walk to benefit The One Fund Boston on Thursday, June 13.
“Coming together as the Cambridge life sciences community in response to the tragedy of the Boston Marathon is a special and meaningful experience, and Genzyme is proud to host the event,” said Jessica Colund of Genzyme. “I am grateful to the participants, to Brooke Bonet from Ironwood Pharmaceuticals who helped organize the event, and to the Cambridge Police for their service to our city and their attendance at the run.”
The event began with a short ceremony at Genzyme headquarters in Cambridge where participants gathered to hear words of thanks and encouragement from a runner who participated in this year’s Boston Marathon, as well as from Robert K. Coughlin, President and CEO of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, and Commissioner Robert C. Haas of the Cambridge Police Department.
“I want to share a heartfelt thank you from the men and women of the Cambridge Police Department and also the MIT Police Department for the support you are showing today and have shown since the terrible events surrounding the marathon bombings,” said Commissioner Haas. “I can honestly say that the outpouring of support we received has kept us focused on our mission of keeping this community safe, and today’s event is just one more example of how you haven’t forgotten about us or those who were affected by the horrible events in April.”
Organized by employees at Ironwood Pharmaceuticals and the Genzyme Corporation, the event raised nearly $500 for victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.
