caution sign The information on this page may be outdated as it was published 11 years ago.

This is the Cambridge Police Department would like to share the following information with residents in the East Cambridge area.

A newly constructed steam line will be brought into service this week on Cambridge Parkway starting October 8th.

A short section between Kendall Station and the exit of Cambridge Parkway will be brought into service on October 9th.

This will continue at the corner of Land Blvd. and Charles River Dam Road and a section will be brought into service in front of the Museum of Science on October 10th.

This work is typical and involves draining water and venting steam to warm up the pipe. The noise is about as noisy as a lawnmower and should not be cause for alarm.

Please do not be alarmed if you hear noises or see anything associated with the release of steam from these pipes, and please be patient as the work may continue on the 11th if necessary.

Thank you for your understanding.
