WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Marcia Deihl, 65, of Cambridge was struck and killed this afternoon in Cambridge while riding her bike on Putnam Street.  The driver of the vehicle which allegedly struck the bike pulled over and stopped after the crash occurred.

“This is still an active investigation," said District Attorney Ryan.  "Investigators are gathering information in order to determine what occurred, but certainly, this death is a shock to this woman's family and friends.  She  seemingly was having an ordinary day, just running an errand to the supermarket when her life was taken.  As the days continue to get warmer, the number of cyclists, joggers, and walkers who will be outside will continue to increase and drivers need to share the road, travel the speed limit, and keep their eyes forward at all times so they can brake if necessary for other vehicles or people."

Authorities say that this afternoon Deihl was riding her bike out of the parking lot of the Whole Food Market at 340 River Street in Cambridge and was traveling on Putnam Street when her bike was hit by a truck.  The driver of that vehicle was interviewed at the scene by officers with the Cambridge Police Department.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Kerry Collins.
