The Cambridge Auxiliary Police Unit, which consists of volunteers who support police and community events, will be hosting an Information Session at Bourbon Coffee in Porter Square (1815 Massachusetts Avenue) on Wednesday, November 15 from 5-7 p.m. All interested candidates are encouraged to attend and apply. The Auxiliary Unit, which has been providing valuable service for the City of Cambridge since 1941, assists the Cambridge Police Department with traffic and crowd control at the City’s many events, including parades, festivals, road races and other city events.
At the Open House, interested candidates will have an opportunity to hear from officers overseeing the unit and speak with Cambridge Police Officers who were formerly volunteers in the Auxiliary Unit.
“Our Auxiliary Officers are among the most dedicated and selfless individuals anyone will ever come across,” said Sergeant Susan Kale. “The Unit and our officers are a tremendously valuable resource for the Department and the City of Cambridge.”
“By volunteering with the Cambridge Auxiliary Police, you gain invaluable experience working with a world-class police department,” stated Officer Sean Norton, who spent five years in the Auxiliary Unit prior to being sworn into the Cambridge Police Department in 2015. “In many ways, it’s a uniformed internship that provides a unique opportunity to meet a number of people and organizations, while providing an important service for the community.”
