Members with the Cambridge Police Department’s Community Relations Unit and Criminal Investigations Unit will conduct door-to-door outreach, free home security assessments and provide educational information in select areas within the Cambridgeport neighborhood this Wednesday and Thursday night. The outreach is in response to the ongoing series of reported housebreaks or attempted housebreaks that have occurred in the neighborhood since May 2015.
Overall, there have been 15 reported mid-week incidents (Monday-Thursday) and 12 reported weekend incidents in Cambridgeport since May 5.
Interested residents will have an opportunity to receive a home security assessment from an officer, who will educate homeowners of any security vulnerabilities at their residence that could potentially lead to a break-in. The educational information will feature housebreak facts, prevention tips and the ways that residents can subscribe to Citizen Alerts.
Those residents who are not at home at the time of the outreach will receive flyers and can schedule the free home security assessment from the Cambridge Police Department by calling 617-349-3236.
