Updated Statement: February 24, 2016

Ryan Callinan, 28, from Wilmington, has been cited with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury and Operating to Endanger following a preliminary, joint investigation of a hit-and-run incident with a bicyclist Sunday, February 21, 2016 at approximately 7:49 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Portland Street. The investigation has been and will continue to be conducted by the Cambridge Police, Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police.  

The victim has been released from a local hospital. 

An arraignment date has not yet been scheduled. In the interim, Callinan will continue to remain on administrative leave from the Cambridge Police Department, where he has served as a patrol officer since 2011.

“The Cambridge Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct seriously,” stated Commissioner Robert C. Haas. “We will continue to work closely with our partners at the District Attorney’s Office and State Police to ensure that a comprehensive, fair and balanced investigation is conducted into this matter.”     


Original Statement: February 22, 2016

An investigation was initiated after an off-duty Cambridge Police officer was involved in a hit-and-run accident with a bicyclist last night at approximately 7:49 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Portland Street. The bicyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.   

Charges are pending an investigation the Cambridge Police are conducting in conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office and State Police.  

In the interim, the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
