Authorities Investigating Attempted Murder-Suicide in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE – The Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office and Cambridge Police Department are investigating an incident at Third and Charles Street this morning after responding to calls of a person with a gun and a shooting.

At approximately 7:46 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, Cambridge Police responded to a shooting on Third Street. A former employee of a local business at 58 Charles Street fired multiple shots at a nearby building and a current employee of the local business. The victim, a 58-year-old male, suffered non-life threatening injuries to his face. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect then took his life in an apparent suicide moments later.

The shooter has been identified as a 70-year-old male from Framingham.

The shooter was terminated by his employer in recent months.  Preliminary investigation into this matter suggests that he returned to his workplace with the intention of killing the current employee.

Authorities believe there is no further threat to the public related to this incident. The immediate area remains closed to traffic due to the ongoing investigation.

Members of the public with information they believe may be helpful to the investigation can contact the Cambridge Police at 617-349-3300.
