New Licensed Social Worker Joins Cambridge Police Department

The Cambridge Police Department announced that Elana Klein has joined the Department as its new Licensed Social Worker. Klein, who will work in the Community Services Unit, will help officers outreach to vulnerable individuals and families, assess service needs, and identify/connect those needing services with providers.   

Superintendent Christine Elow said, “We are pleased to add such a talented resource to our department. Elana brings valuable experience and she has a strong network of service providers. She will serve as an important asset for our officers and the city’s vulnerable populations, including youth and families, individuals who are homeless, elders, immigrants, and victims who require assistance with social and mental health issues.”

A resident of Cambridge, Klein spent the past seven years as a court clinician at the Dorchester Juvenile Court in Boston, where, in 2016, her program was recognized by Massachusetts General Hospital for Excellence in the area of Community Contributions.  Prior to her position at the court clinic, she provided social work services at the William J. Ostiguy High School for youth in recovery from substance use disorders and held several different positions at Action for Boston Community Development, Inc.  Klein is a graduate of the Boston University School of Social Work.

Klein is the second Licensed Social Worker on staff at the Cambridge Police Department. The License Social Workers will also work closely with the Department’s Domestic Violence Liaison.
