CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 23, 2018 -- The Cambridge Police have made an arrest following an investigation of gunshots that occurred early this morning in the area of Henry Street and Putnam Avenue.

Following calls to the Emergency Communications Department, Cambridge Police responded to the area of Henry Street and Putnam Avenue this morning at approximately 1:47 a.m. for reports of multiple gunshots. Nearby Officers with the Cambridge Police Department responded to the area and identified a truck traveling at a high rate of speed on Putnam Avenue. When Officers turned their vehicle around, they observed a suspect slow the truck down, jump out and flee over a fence. The truck ended up crashing into a parked vehicle, which caused minor damage. After a brief pursuit, Officers located and took the suspect into custody. There were no injuries.

The suspect -- a 16-year-old male -- was arrested and charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding, Reckless Operation, Marked Lanes Violation, Failure to Stop, Leaving the Scene of Property Damage, Use of Motor Vehicle without Authority, and Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle.

While searching the area for evidence of firearm use, officers then located a loaded BB gun, walkie talkie and torn clothing. The suspect did acknowledge shooting a BB gun earlier with a friend.
