A resident of Somerville was issued a criminal citation after being observed and captured via LIDAR traveling above the posted speed limit in their vehicle. A license query during the traffic stop revealed the driver was not licensed to operate a vehicle in Massachusetts.

PORTER STREET

A resident of Porter Street reported that the rear window of their motor vehicle was smashed in by an unknown suspect between 10:00 a.m. August 5 and 8:00 a.m. August 6. A report was taken for insurance purposes.

HAMPSHIRE STREET

Officers responded to Hampshire Street for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicycle. A bicyclist was struck and knocked down by a vehicle entering the roadway from a parking spot, and after the operator of the vehicle checked if the bicyclist was injured, he got back in the vehicle and left the scene prior to responders arriving. The suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, with black or brown hair. The bicyclist sustained scrapes and did not require transportation to the hospital.

The owner of a Sherman Street business reported a larceny of a piece of jewelry valued at almost $4,000. A customer from California ordered the custom piece, then reportedly canceled the credit card payment after receipt of the jewelry.

A resident of Cambridge reported that their wallet was stolen on August 3. Several unauthorized charges had been made using the victim’s credit card by the time they noticed the wallet missing on August 4.

Officers responded to Central Square for a disturbance. A resident of Brookline reported that an unknown black male approached them while walking down Massachusetts Avenue towards Harvard Square and began to swing at them. The victim and the suspect got into a brief scuffle. The victim does not know what provoked the suspect. The suspect is described as having medium length hair, balding in the back, and approximately 35 to 40 years old.

A resident of Cambridge reported losing their wallet sometime after 1:43 p.m. August 3. Their bank card was used at 4:43 p.m. that day. The wallet also contained the victim’s identification and health insurance cards.

A resident of Cambridge reported being the victim of a scam. The victim received a phone call from someone claiming to be from an electric company. The caller threatened to shut off the victim’s electricity unless they paid $790 in gift cards, which they did.

Officers responded for a motor vehicle crash involving four vehicles. The crash was caused when a bus ahead stopped and forced traffic to slow down. None of the involved parties required transportation to the hospital, although three reported minor injuries. Paperwork was exchanged.

A cyclist was struck by an opening vehicle door while cycling on Vassar Street near Main Street. The operator of the vehicle reported that their child had opened the rear door to exit the vehicle without looking and struck the cyclist. The driver escorted the victim to the hospital for minor injuries.

A cyclist was struck by an opening vehicle door while cycling on Broadway by Trowbridge Street. The operator of the vehicle stated that the door had failed to latch, so they opened it slightly to reclose it and the cyclist hit it while it was ajar. The cyclist was transported to the hospital for back and wrist pain.

Officers responded to Massachusetts Avenue for a report of a larceny of bike accessories. The victim’s bicycle was locked up between approximately 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., during which time an unknown suspect removed the bicycle seat, lights, and helmet light.
