A resident of New York reported his backpack stolen from inside a Third Street restaurant. The backpack, which went missing between approximately 3:00 and 5:00 a.m., contained a foreign passport, two watches, and various other items.

Officers responded to the area of Essex Street and Bishop Allen Drive for a report of an unattended suitcase. Explosive Ordnance Disposal cleared the bag with the assistance of a K9. The suitcase was determined to contain hairdressing equipment and was transferred to the Property Unit.

A resident of Cambridge reported a larceny of a wheel off his bicycle. An unknown suspect entered the reporting party’s locked apartment building on Oxford Avenue, accessed the locked laundry and bike storage area, and removed the rear wheel from the reporting party’s bicycle.

A resident of Quincy reported her handbag stolen from a Massachusetts Avenue business between approximately 12:30 and 4:45 p.m. The bag contained debit and credit cards, a driver’s license, a cell phone, and other personal items.

MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE

Officers responded to a Massachusetts Avenue bicycle shop for a report of a stolen bicycle. Two male suspects had spent some time in the shop while a maintenance job was completed on a bicycle belonging to one of them, and after this was finished, they requested a test ride of a yellow BMX bicycle belonging to the shop. The two suspects left the store with the BMX bicycle without offering payment and did not return.

Officers were flagged down by employees of a Harvard Square business for a report of a past larceny. The reporting parties stated that an unknown male suspect had been caught multiple times stealing items from the store. The employees were advised to call police next time they see the suspect in order to have him formally trespassed.

Areal Zayas, 36, 9 Galvin Way in South Boston, was placed under arrest for Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise after he was observed by a Cambridgeside Place store loss prevention officer leaving the business with several items that he had not offered payment for. Officers stopped Zayas nearby and discovered the stolen property in his possession.

An elderly resident of Cambridge reported being the victim of an internet scam regarding gift cards. The victim was contacted by an unknown male suspect, who told her that her Microsoft subscription was expiring and she needed to pay for a new subscription using Ebay gift cards. After the victim had purchased several gift cards at one store, the cashier suspected she was involved in a scam and refused to continue selling to her.

A resident of Medford reported being assaulted by an unknown male in Harvard Square between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. on September 26. The victim was pushed into a fence without provocation. The victim reported the incident on the advice of his physician, whom he saw for injuries resulting from the assault.

A resident of Cambridge reported hit and run damage to his vehicle that occurred while the car was parked near the intersection of Oxford and Wendell Streets. A witness observed a commercial truck strike the damaged vehicle at approximately 2:15 p.m. while attempting to take a turn. The witness stated that she did not believe the operator of the truck was aware they had struck the parked vehicle.

After a search, Donald Gallo, 39, 240 Albany Street in Cambridge, was placed under arrest for Unarmed Robbery. Gallo was found to be in possession of the victim’s stolen money and positively identified by the victim.

Officers responded to Pearl Street for a report of suspicious activity. A resident of Cambridge reported an unknown male suspect attempting to convince her to enter his vehicle as she walked on the sidewalk. The suspect drove away when the reporting party began a conversation with a couple nearby.
