Updated on January 24, 2019:

The Cambridge Police have arrested William Pires, 19, 64 Derby Street in Somerville, following an investigation into yesterday morning’s non-fatal shooting in the area of Cambridge Street and Columbia Street. He will face several charges, including Assault to Murder, Carrying a Firearm without a License, and Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling.

Preliminary information from the investigation indicates that a verbal altercation between Pires and another identified man occurred prior to the shooting. After recovering evidence, utilizing surveillance footage from nearby businesses, and receiving assistance from the Somerville Police Department and the Probation Department at Somerville District Court, the Cambridge Police were able to positively identify Pires as the suspect responsible for the shooting and he was placed under arrest this morning.

Pires is expected to be arraigned today in Cambridge District Court.

A Dorchester resident reported hearing multiple gunshots while parked in a nearby gas station parking lot. The Cambridge Police identified and spoke to other nearby individuals after the reported gunshots, but were not able to initially locate any shell casings after canvassing the area. There were no reported calls or further descriptions of possible involved parties, and no known injuries or victims.

Officers re-canvassed the area later this morning and were able to locate two shell casings at the scene.
