Cambridge Police Recover More Than 40 Pounds of Marijuana, Arrest Suspect Thanks to Coordination with Local Hotel

Officers with the Cambridge Police Special Investigations Unit and Patrol Section today arrested a Utah man following an investigation that began with a tip from a local hotel. Staff at a local Memorial Drive hotel notified the Cambridge Police of suspicious packages that were delivered to their business after an individual -- who was not staying at the hotel -- attempted to claim them. When Officers arrived, the suspect fled the area. After a brief search, the suspect was located inside the trunk of a vehicle inside the hotel’s parking garage. A search of the packages was conducted. Three boxed crates with multiple bags of marijuana weighing a total of approximately 45 pounds with a street value of $75,000-$100,000, as well as nearly $4,000 in US currency, four cell phones, several keys and a prepaid debit card were recovered.  Stanley Suojanen, 39, Cedar Hills, Utah, was arrested and charged with Possession to Distribute a Class D Drug.

This investigation underscores the importance of the Cambridge Police outreach program that has been established with hotels all around the City of Cambridge. One of the primary goals of the program is to target those who visit or check into area hotels and motels for the purpose of using, delivering, or selling narcotics or engaging in sex trafficking. Through this program, Officers have conducted dozens of trainings for hotel staff and management to help them recognize the signs and behaviors of potential illegal activity. Additionally, specific Officers are assigned to each hotel to provide a main point-of-contact and enhanced level of service.
