Cambridge Police Share Information on Street Robberies in Mid-Cambridge

The Cambridge Police are actively seeking to identify multiple suspects wanted in connection with a recent series of reported robberies in the Mid-Cambridge neighborhood north of Mass. Ave.

On Tuesday, September 10 at approximately 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of Inman and West Street, a 32-year-old Cambridge male was approached by two male suspects, who initially asked him for change. After denying them change, the suspects requested all of the money the victim had. One of the suspects gestured towards their waistband, insinuating that they were armed with a weapon. The suspects were described as black males, approximately 16-years-old, 5’10-6’, wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts and black pants.

On Wednesday, September 11 at approximately 1:20 a.m. in the area of the 1XX block of Bishop Allen Drive, a restaurant delivery driver exited his vehicle and, while waiting for the customer to pick up food, he was approached by two suspects. One of the suspects grabbed his waste and motioned that he was armed with a weapon. The delivery driver handed over the ordered food and $50 in cash. The two suspects were described as black males, approximately 15-18 years old, who wearing black clothing.

On Thursday, September 12 at approximately 9 p.m. in the area of the 1XX block of Bishop Allen Drive, a restaurant delivery driver reported that he was robbed at knife point when making a delivery. One of the suspects demanded that the delivery driver give him all of his money and the ordered food. The driver gave him $20 in cash and the food. The three suspects were described as black males, in their early 20s, who were wearing hooded sweatshirts.

On Thursday, September 12 at 11:42 p.m. Officers responded to the area of Harvard Street and Clinton Street for a report of an unarmed robbery. A 30-year-old Cambridge male resident reported he was walking in the area of the 2XX block of Harvard Street when two suspects asked him for change for a $10 bill. After providing two $5 bills, the suspects then placed their hands on his shoulders and requested his wallet. The victim shouted for them to leave and they left the area. The two suspects were described as black males, approximately 18-20 years old, and were wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts.

While the Cambridge Police are actively investigating these incidents, increased patrols have been deployed to the neighborhood and extra attention will be provided in the areas and timeframes of these incidents. • To avoid being victimized, the Cambridge Police encourage all persons to take the following precautions when walking at night:
• Do not wear earbuds, headphones, or listen to music while walking alone.
• Always walk with a friend or in a group when possible.
• Be aware of your surroundings at all times and trust your instincts.
• Walk with confidence on the street and at a good, steady pace. Keep your head up and observe your surroundings.  Don't look down at the ground.
• If you feel you are being followed, show you are suspicious – Turn to look at the person. This sends a clear message that you will not be taken by surprise.
• Change directions.  If someone is following you on foot, cross the street and vary your pace. If the person following you is in a car, turn and walk in the opposite direction.
• If approached, DO NOT RESIST.  
• The best course of action is to hand over money and whatever other belongings are demanded and try to disengage from this confrontational and potentially dangerous situation as soon as possible. Remember, things can always be replaced.
• Try to remember descriptive information about the robber (height, age, race, etc.) to relay to police when reporting any potential incidents.
• Please call the police immediately to report an incident. 
• Do not handle any property that may be potential evidence. Allow the police to retrieve evidence.
