Cambridge Police, Fire and the DEP responded to Prospect Street and Bishop Allen Drive for a hazmat incident. A large commercial vehicle punctured a fuel tank, which spilled approximately 30 gallons of diesel fuel on the roadway.

Cambridge Police Special Investigations Unit arrested Edward Colwell, 53, 150 Olive Avenue in Lawrence, and charged him with Possession of a Class B Substance - Crack Cocaine. Complaints are also pending against a Cambridge resident for Possession of a Class B Substance - Crack Cocaine. Colwell and the Cambridge resident were observed engaging in a suspected street level drug transaction with an individual in a motor vehicle. Once stopped, Colwell was found to be in possession of a baggy of crack cocaine (approximately 3.7 grams). The resident was also stopped and found to be in possession of a crack pipe with white residue. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Massachusetts Avenue and Pleasant Street. A subsequent field test of the substance recovered from Colwell using a ThermoScientific TruNarc analyzer revealed a positive result for Cocaine Base.

The operator of this unknown vehicle left the area of the accident without stopping to identify themselves.

While at the intersection, officers stopped a motor vehicle after it took an improper left turn from Hampshire Street onto Cambridge Street. At this time, it was discovered that the operator, a Cambridge resident, currently had a suspended license.
