The Cambridge Police Department held a ceremony this afternoon inside the Sullivan Chamber at Cambridge City Hall for Sil Ferreira, Jr. and Rick Riley, who were both promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent.
Deputy Ferreira, who graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin, joined the Cambridge Police Department in 1989. He has served in a variety of units within the department, including Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, and most recently as a Lieutenant in the Professional Standards Unit. Ferreira has also been actively involved in CPD’s Neighborhood Sergeants Program, representing The Port and Mid-Cambridge. He will oversee Night Operations alongside Deputy Daniel Wagner and also serve as the Commanding Officer for Tactical Operations.
Deputy Riley joined the Cambridge Police Department in 1993. He has served in a Supervisor capacity for nearly 17 years in a variety of units, including Technical Services, Crime Analysis, Training and Certification, and most recently in Traffic Enforcement, where he has been a part of the Vision Zero Working Group dedicated to implementing change to reduce death and serious bodily injury crashes and increasing safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all street users. Riley will oversee Day Operations and serve as the Commanding Officer for the Traffic Enforcement Unit.
Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, Vice Mayor Alanna Mallon, City Manager Louis A. DePasquale, City Councilors and Cambridge Police Commissioner Dr. Branville G. Bard, Jr. joined other city officials, officers, family members and friends at the ceremony to honor Deputy Superintendents Ferreira and Riley on their promotions.
Commissioner Bard stated, “Sil and Rick have made significant contributions to the Cambridge Police Department and bring extensive experience and important leadership qualities to their new roles. I have complete confidence with their abilities and commitment to advancing CPD’s mission and values, and how effectively they will continue to work collaboratively with our community partners.”
