A Malden resident reported a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash on February 22, 2020 at approximately 8:30 PM. The operator of the other vehicle struck him from behind while he was stopped at a red light on Massachusetts Avenue. The operator then fled the scene after both drivers had pulled over. There was minor damage to the victim's vehicle.

Erick Pires, 27, 70 Toplift Street in Dorchester, was arrested at Windsor Street and charged with OUI - Alcohol and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Pires was observed operating a motor vehicle at a high rate of speed with the front right tire locked in a left turn position, causing extremely loud screeching, smoke and an overwhelming smell of burnt rubber. There was also additional fresh damage to the entire right side of the motor vehicle. Upon being stopped, Pires displayed signs of intoxication and refused to perform roadside assessments.

JACKSON ST
Cambridge Police came upon an unoccupied parked vehicle on Rindge Avenue just past Clay Street that appeared to have been recently struck in the left rear by another motor vehicle. Officers continued down Rindge Avenue and located a second motor vehicle pulled over to the side of the road with a female operator, identified as Althea Berg, 23, 1422 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, sitting in the driver's seat with the keys in the ignition and the vehicle on. A male party was standing outside the passenger side of the vehicle. Officers approached the vehicle and found heavy damage to the right front end of the vehicle. The operator admitted to crashing into the parked car just a few minutes prior. After an investigation and a group of roadside assessments, Berg was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol. Berg was also charged with Open Containers of Alcohol in the vehicle. The male passenger was allowed to continue on his way.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted and it was determined that he was operating a motor vehicle after a suspended license.
