Update: Cambridge Police Investigation into Gunshots at Harvard and Portland

May 3, 2020 Update:

Sage Ballard, 19, Cambridge was arrested this morning by the Cambridge Police Department following a comprehensive investigation into a gunshots incident that occurred last night at approximately 7:16 p.m. in the area of Harvard and Portland Street. Ballard was charged with Armed Assault with intent to Murder, Carrying a Firearm Without a License and Discharge of a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building.  One motor vehicle – with two occupants -- was struck by gunshots, however no one was injured.

“I want to commend the members of the community who supported our investigation, as well as our Officers who were quickly able to make an arrest following this senseless violence,” said Commissioner Branville G. Bard, Jr. of the Cambridge Police Department. “This was a brazen and unacceptable act and we were fortunate that nobody was injured.”

The Cambridge Police Department was assisted on this investigation by the Boston Police Department. 

The details contained above are allegations. The suspects are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

 

 

Cambridge Police Investigating Gunshots at Harvard/Portland; No Known Injuries

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 2, 2020 -- Cambridge Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation tonight at approximately 7:16 p.m. in the area of Harvard and Portland Street. Initial reports indicate multiple shots were fired in the area and a vehicle then fled towards Main Street. Officers quickly arrived on scene. There are no known victim(s), but Officers have recovered multiple shell casings. An active investigation is ongoing.
