The Cambridge Police wants to make East Cambridge residents aware of a series of car break-ins that were reported between Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17. Eleven incidents were reported and are believed to have taken place between late Friday night or early Saturday morning. The suspect(s) gained entry by smashing the passenger window in a majority of the cases. While nothing was reported missing in several break-ins, a laptop and cash was stolen from victims.

The car break-ins were reported on the following streets:

  • Bent Street
  • Charles Street
  • First Street
  • Lopez Avenue
  • Marcella Street
  • Otis Street (3)
  • Second Street (3)

Cambridge Police have directed extra attention to this area and a preliminary investigation has led to the recovery of a laptop stolen from a Second Street resident. Officers are encouraging motorists to take the following precautions to protect themselves, their vehicles, and their belongings from theft:

- NEVER LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR.

- Make sure all of your car doors are locked and windows are rolled up when leaving your vehicle, including when parked in a residential driveway.

- If you must leave packages or valuables in your car, place them in the trunk or under a blanket to conceal them so that they are not exposed.

- Report thefts as soon as possible to the police and always call 9-1-1 if you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
