Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville Bard, Jr. have confirmed an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and a bicyclist in the area of Harvard Square MBTA Station.

At approximately 9:42 a.m. today, Cambridge Police responded to the area of Massachusetts Avenue at Dunster Street, Cambridge, for a report of a motor vehicle crash. The bicyclist, a male in his fifties, was pronounced dead on scene.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the tractor-trailer driver was traveling westbound on Massachusetts Avenue (away from Harvard Square) when the crash occurred. The operator of the tractor-trailer remained on the scene. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Cambridge Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
