Cambridge Police responded to Erie Street for a report of an apartment full of thick smoke. Cambridge Fire aired out the smoke and put out the fire.

FRANKLIN ST
Michael Medeiros, 39, Pelham, NH, was arrested at approximately 12:15 p.m. at Franklin Street and charged with Larceny of a Bike and Malicious Destruction of Property Under $1200. An officer on patrol observed Medeiros remove a steel post from the ground and use it smash a lock securing a bike to a bike rack. Medeiros then removed the bike and was about to leave the area as he was stopped by the officer. Medeiros was also found to have four warrants out of Cambridge District Court (Larceny from a Building, Larceny over $1,200, Possession of a Burglarious Instrument and Aggravated Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon).

A resident of Cambridge states she received a phone call from an unknown woman who stated she worked for the Social Security Office. This suspect informed the resident that she is being investigated for drug charges in Texas and the Social Security Office needed her social security number. The resident provided her social security number to the suspect and later realized the call was a scam once the call ended.

An Elm Street resident reported the theft of a catalytic converter from her parked and unoccupied motor vehicle sometime in the last few days. The value of the property is listed at $1,500.

HOMER AVE
A resident of Cambridge states she received an email from "Norton Life Lock" that requested she call a number in that email to discuss issues with her account. The resident called the number, spoke with an individual, and was eventually scammed out of $1,800 by the suspect.

Cambridge Police summonsed a resident of Boston after a motor vehicle stop on Massachusetts Avenue. The operator was observed driving the wrong way on Massachusetts Avenue near Remington Street, a public way in the city of Cambridge. He was stopped in the vicinity of Putnam Square. During the stop, it was learned that the driver does not possess a valid driver's license.

Cambridge Police arrested Samuel Ortiz, 39, homeless, for warrants out of Boston and West Roxbury District Courts (Larceny from Person, Larceny from Building, Threat to Commit a Crime, Trespassing, Disorderly Conduct, Indecent Exposure and Shoplifting by Asportation). Ortiz was stopped and identified following a shoplifting incident at a department store on Alewife Parkway.
