Subsequently, Habtamu Mesene, 18, homeless in Cambridge, was placed under arrest after he was observed by officers swinging a knife at three other males and trying to instigate a fight with them. Mesene has been charged with three counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon to wit a Knife and one count of Disorderly Conduct.

Cambridge Police Officers responded to a department store at Massachusetts Avenue for a report of male possibly shoplifting. Upon arrival, the male party in question had already fled the scene. Upon a brief search of the area, the party in question was located with the merchandise still in hand. After a brief investigation it was concluded that William Nelson, 56, 85 East Newton Street in Boston, currently had an active warrant out of Brookline District Court for Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise. Nelson was placed under arrest for the active warrant and transported to the station in normal fashion for processing. The merchandise in question was returned to the department store; no additional charges are being filed at this time.

Cambridge Police arrested Mathew McFarland, 34, homeless of Cambridge, for a warrant out of Cambridge District Court for Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1,200. McFarland was stopped and identified in the vicinity of Central Square. Shortly thereafter, it was confirmed that McFarland had an outstanding warrant out of Cambridge District Court. Officers located the following on McFarland’s person: two clear plastic bags containing a white crystal-like substance (suspected methamphetamine), a white folded paper containing a brown powder-like substance (suspected fentanyl). Additionally, the following items were discovered inside of McFarland’s backpack: a large clear plastic bag containing multiple clear plastic baggies, a clear plastic bag containing multiple brown rubber bands, and a blue metallic vial containing a white elongated pill (suspected Xanax) and a pink round pill (suspected Adderall). He was summonsed for the following: Possession of Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Class A Substance, and two counts of Possession of Class E Substance.
