English / ESOL Program
Do you want to learn to read, write and speak English better?
We offer English classes for Cambridge residents. We have students from over 65 country taking classes.
- 6 levels of English classes (ESOL), including basic literacy
- Morning and evening classes
- 10-month minimum study
Class Schedule
- Morning: from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. two or three days a week
- Evenings: from 6:15 - 9:15 p.m. two days a week

- Central Square: 5 Western Ave., Cambridge
- North Cambridge: 286 Rindge Ave., Cambridge
Information Session and Placement Test
Learn about our English classes and take a placement test to see what level class is best for you. Sign up for an information session:
- Friday, June 7, 2024, 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., Central Square - Register
- Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 6 - 8:30 p.m., Central Square - Register
You must live in Cambridge to take English classes. When you come to an information session, please bring one of these: a lease, driver’s license, or something that has your address on it. If you stay in a homeless shelter in Cambridge, you can bring a letter from the program.
Students in English classes have access to:
- Citizenship classes
- Conversation classes
- Basic computer classes
- Career advising and help finding jobs
- Education advising
- Support with learning challenges and disabilities
Special English classes
- English Class for Parents with Young Children
- High beginner to low intermediate level class for parents with young children
- Location: Peabody School in North Cambridge (70 Rindge Ave.)
- Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
- English Class for Seniors
- Beginner level class for adults ages 60+
- Location: Citywide Senior Center (806 Massachusetts Ave.) in Central Square
- Time: Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

- Beginner level class for parents or caregivers of children enrolled in Cambridge Public School
- Location: Cambridge Community Learning Center (5 Western Ave.) in Central Square
- Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
