Notice: Part of Parking Lot Blocked Off For Construction
One of the underground geothermal well pumps has failed and needs to be replaced. Due to the nature of the work, three row of the parking lot closest to Broadway will be blocked off on Tuesday, July 9th. The air conditioning will be turned off while this work is taking place. It is expected to take until 2PM on July 2nd for crews to replace the pump.
NOTICE: Access to bicycles parked under the canopy on Broadway will not be available until after Wednesday, 5/29 at 8PM.
The entry plaza to the City Hall Annex, located at 344 Broadway, is scheduled for upgrades with construction beginning the week of May 13, 2019, weather permitting. This work will take place in two phases:
PHASE I: May 13, 2019-August 14, 2019
- Install temporary construction fence around Broadway plaza including sidewalk and parking spaces.
- Install temporary access signage for public access, employee access and accessibility entry.
- Install temporary accessible parking spaces at corner of Broadway and Inman Street.
- Install “Sidewalk Closed” signage directing public to cross Broadway at crosswalks.
- Locate temporary bike racks to sidewalk bump out across from King Open School crosswalk, and at Inman St. and Inman Place.
- Install new exposed aggregate concrete accessible ramp from West Place side of plaza including radiant heat.
- Install new granite steps, railings and Bioretention/Raingarden below steps and granite faced cheek walls.
- Install new concrete sidewalk and permeable brick pavers along Broadway.
- Install site lighting and new canopy lighting.
- Install benches.
PHASE II: August 19, 2019-October 14, 2019
- Relocate construction fence and signage, open new accessible ramp from West Place side of plaza.
- Reopen existing covered bike rack.
- Install new exposed aggregate concrete accessible ramp from Inman Street side of plaza including radiant heat.
- Install new concrete sidewalk and permeable brick pavers along remainder of Broadway. • Install temporary accessible parking spaces on Broadway.
- Install plantings and trees.
Throughout construction, the front entrance will be an accessible entrance only. The main public entrance will be on West Place. Bike parking will be provided at the corner of Broadway and West Place as well as at the corner of Inman St. and Inman Pl.
What to Expect During Construction:
- Work hours will be 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday-Friday.
- “No Parking” signs will be posted; please be sure to check dates/times.
- Vehicle access in and out of properties will be maintained but may be restricted for short periods. If you need access and your driveway is blocked, please speak to a crew member on site and they will make accommodations for you.
- Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.

NOTICE: City Hall Annex Entry Plaza Accessibility Upgrades Community Meeting on Thursday, April 5th from 6PM-7:30PM

Thursday, April 5th from 6:00-7:30 pm, the Department of Public Works will be hosting a Community Meeting in the fourth floor Conference Room at the City Hall Annex located at 344 Broadway.
City staff will be holding a public meeting to discuss accessibility upgrades to the entry plaza at the City Hall Annex located at 344 Broadway. Construction is anticipated to begin in June 2018 and last approximately 4 months.
The project generally consists of:
- Replacing existing brick surfacing with a more consistent, stable concrete surface
- Addition of a walkway leading to the entrance when approaching from the west
- Addition of a rain garden for storm water runoff
- Reduction of the stair width from the sidewalk to the main entrance
- Relocation of bicycle parking stanchions
- Wayfinding enhancements for people with disabilities to locate the front entrance including improved signage and paving indicators
- Addition of limited seating
A brief presentation will be given, followed by a comment, question and answer period. We encourage you to attend, as we value the feedback we receive from Cambridge residents and businesses.
