NOTICE: Detours and Traffic Impacts to begin March 31, 2025
As part of the Cambridge Fire Department Headquarters Renovation Project, the City’s contractor, WT Rich, will implement a detour on Quincy Street between Cambridge Street and Broadway. Traffic will be redirected onto Prescott Street. Pedestrian crosswalks and bike lanes on the affected section of Quincy Street will remain accessible.
The detour is expected to be in place 24 hours a day for approximately three months, from March 31 to June 30. During this time, construction vehicles will be on Quincy Street for demolition activities and installing new structural steel for the building.
Please stay alert for detour signs, road closure signs, variable message boards, and no parking signs, as these will be updated frequently throughout the project.
What to Expect During Construction:
- Work hours will be 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday-Friday, but the detour will remain in effect 24/7.
- “No Parking” signs will be posted; please be sure to check dates/times.
- Signs and message boards will be in place to guide drivers and warn them about the upcoming detour.
- Emergency services have been notified of the detour and will have access in the event of an emergency

The City's contractor, WT Rich, will be receiving equipment and materials needed to construct the Station 10 temporary fire house located at 15 Hovey Ave. You were notified in late July that this work was scheduled for early August. Unfortunately, due to delays along the 2,800 mile travel route this delivery had to be delayed.
The materials will now arrive beginning Sunday, September 24th. Due to the size of these materials, deliveries will arrive during the overnight hours of 8p.m. and 7a.m. on four consecutive nights between Sunday, September 24th and Friday, September 29th. The deliveries will arrive in four sections – one per night.
WT Rich submitted an application for a Special Noise Variance to the Cambridge Board of License Commissioners (“the Board”). If granted, it would serve to extend the dates requested and approved at the August 8, 2023, Board of License Commissioners’ Public Meeting. All other details will remain the same. Public Comment for consideration by the Board can be submitted to noise@cambridgema.gov.
