Beginning Saturday. October 28th and continuing through Friday, November 3rd (weather permitting), the City’s contractor will perform roadway grinding operations in preparation for paving to enhance the roadway conditions.
This will occur on Mt. Auburn Street (from Holyoke St. to Putnam Ave). This maintenance work is being done to improve the condition of the roadway and provide a better roadway surface for all users, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians crossing at crosswalks, but is not a full street reconstruction project.
Roadway grinding is expected to be completed in two days (weather permitting). Residents who have vehicles parked in the work area will need to move them prior to the beginning of operations at 7am.
Final roadway paving is expected to occur later that same week (weather permitting), and residents are asked to please check “No Parking” signs for important information.
In 2018, the City will be looking more closely at the layout of the street to develop a concept that will better accommodate cyclists, tour buses, pedestrians, and drivers, while supporting the vitality and economic development of Harvard Square. This concept will be developed through a community process that will involve a wide range of stakeholders along Mount Auburn Street and in Harvard Square.
