City of Cambridge Celebrates “Arbor Week” April 25-29
A Series of Events to Celebrate Cambridge's Urban Forest
Cambridge, MA – April 21, 2022 – The Cambridge Department of Public Works invites you to celebrate Arbor Week Apr. 25-29, featuring activities and information that promote the city’s Urban Forest.
Monday, April 25 – Arbor Week and Poetry Month collide with a series of tree-inspired poems scattered throughout the City. These poems give us a chance to reflect on what trees and nature mean to us as we walk through the urban landscape. Tuesday, April 26 –City Arborist Dave Lefcourt and Assistant City Arborist Abby Bentley will be tabling outside of City Hall from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. to share information about trees and hand out seedlings and other materials. The Cambridge community plays a role in keeping the urban forest healthy and strong—and enjoy its many benefits.
Wednesday, April 27 – Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, City Arborist Dave Lefcourt and Assistant City Arborist Abby Bentley will be hosting a tree planting at the Maria L. Baldwin School, 85 Oxford St. at 1p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Thursday, April 28 – Public Works will hold an event outside the Main Library from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., weather permitting. Members of the community are invited to come learn about the Urban Forest and collect a free seedling. Librarians will also be on hand to read a tree-themed book to children outside the library at the regularly-scheduled story time at 10:30 a.m.
Friday, April 29 - Commemorative Tree Planting City Arborist Dave Lefcourt and Assistant City Arborist Abby Bentley will be planting a commemorative Arbor Day tree on Friday, April 29, at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School, 102 Putnam Ave. The public is invited to attend. Barrett Tree Service East will be performing young tree training around the school as part of their Arbor Day of Service.
