Cambridge Curbside Compost is Expanding
The curbside compost program began in Spring 2018 and was initially available to 1 to 12-unit buildings with City trash service. In the first 21 months of compost pickup, residents across Cambridge have diverted over 6.3 million pounds of food scraps from being sent to landfills. The Department of Public Works is pleased to say curbside compost pickup is now expanding to larger residential buildings.
Buildings with 13+ units with City trash collection are now eligible. To find out if your building is eligible, please fill out this form.
Composting helps the City reduce residential trash and carbon emissions associated with sending food to the landfill. At the same time, food scraps are given a second life to make clean energy and fertilizer.
