Low- Income Residents Can Save 25% on Their Electricity Bill with Community Solar.

The City of Cambridge continues its partnership with Sunwealth to bring clean energy, and lower monthly bills to income-eligible residents, whether they rent or own. Cambridge low-income residents can now reduce their electricity bills by enrolling in Sunwealth Community Solar. These services are available in multiple languages. There are no up-front costs or credit check to participate and you do not need to install solar panels on your home. 

“Community Solar allows residents to become members of a solar farm, which supports clean energy and also gives them savings,” said Cambridge Energy Alliance Director, Meghan Shaw. “This program makes it more affordable for residents to support solar and reduce their electricity bills. Sunwealth offers a consumer-friendly and accessible way to support renewable energy.” 

Participants pay a discounted rate for the energy produced by the solar panels and receive credits on their utility bill. The City of Cambridge selected Sunwealth’s offering due to the fixed 25% discount it provides to income-eligible residents, as well as its commitment to environmental justice.  The program is easy to cancel or transfer if you move within eastern Massachusetts.  

To date, over three dozen Cambridge residents have enrolled in Sunwealth’s program, saving an average of more than $100.00 in annual energy costs. Eric Romero, a Sunwealth Community Solar participant and Cambridge resident, considers the partnership to be a win-win solution to “help save money and the environment.”
