Cambridge Climate Leader Program

Cambridge Climate Action Leader Program

Announcing new additional rounds of the Cambridge Climate Action Leader Program!

The first cohort of Cambridge Climate Action Leaders completed the inaugural program in June of 2023. We’re happy to announce that we’ll be running two more rounds of the program through December 2025.

What is the Cambridge Climate Action Leader program?

Climate Action Leaders is a climate change education and outreach program. We want to share with you what the city is doing about climate change and the climate resources we offer. We also want to hear from you about our efforts on climate change and what’s important to you. We all have our part to play, and this program is an opportunity for us to work together.

Some Climate Action Leaders bring deep expertise in climate change to the program, and others are new to the topic. There is no knowledge of climate change required to participate in this program.

As a Climate Action Leader, you would attend a training led by City of Cambridge and our project partner, Climate Access. Then, you would plan and host your own climate conversation with whomever you wish. Climate leader conversations have covered a wide variety of climate topics, event formats, and audiences – it's up to you.

Why should I join?

You might consider this program for lots of reasons. For example:

  • If you’re looking to join others in climate work
  • If you want to participate in a program that offers practice in event planning, outreach, and climate communication
  • If you want to learn more about climate change
  • If you want to share your thoughts with city staff on climate change
  • If you want to learn about climate resources in Cambridge and share those with your friends and family
  • And plenty of other reasons! We hope you will consider joining the program

What is the time commitment?

You will spend your time during the recruitment process, one required training, and planning and hosting your conversation. We will also offer an optional, additional training on climate change in Cambridge and optional opportunities to connect with your cohort. And we’ll complete the program with a celebration of your work!

The recruitment process typically occurs over a couple of weeks. It involves sharing your interest in participating with us and completing a group interview. The required training is just under a ½ day commitment. We don’t require a set amount of time preparing for and hosting your event. We recommend planning in a way that works for your schedule.

Will I receive any support?

There is a $200 stipend available for Climate Action Leaders selected to participate. However, the stipend is not available to those employed by the City of Cambridge. We also offer opportunities to connect with staff and other climate leaders as you plan your conversation and if any challenges arise. If you wish, though this isn’t required, City staff can also attend your climate conversations and support with taking notes or feedback to department staff to inform climate efforts.
