The City of Cambridge and Eversource have partnered to launch the Cambridge Energy Retrofit Program, a one-stop shop for Cambridge buildings over 25,000 square feet or 50 units to access energy efficiency resources. The program makes it easier for large building owners, operators, and tenants to reduce their energy use and carbon emissions and save money.

The program's Building Energy Retrofit Consultant connects building owners and facility managers with energy efficiency services and technical support including:

  • Comprehensive planning services and support specific to building type
  • Expert guidance, including a dedicated Eversource Energy Efficiency team, vendor referrals, and specialized building technology
  • Energy Efficiency offerings and incentives based on customer type and size
  • Building Operator Certification training classes for facilities staff

Program Background

The City aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, requiring aggressive levels of energy savings, outlined in the Cambridge Net Zero Action Plan. To address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from buildings, the City adopted the Building Energy Use Disclosure Ordinance (BEUDO), in 2014 to collect energy-related data from large commercial, institutional, and residential buildings. The Cambridge Building Energy Retrofit Program helps BUEDO building owners take the next step to meet and exceed anticipated BEUDO performance requirements and enables the deep carbon savings necessary to meet the City's climate mitigation goals.
