A winning project from the 2018 Small Business Challenge

The Small Business Challenge invites Cambridge small businesses, business associations, and groups of neighborhood businesses to propose projects that will enhance and invigorate their commercial areas and business districts.

Following last year’s expanded program, the 2019 Small Business Challenge increased funding for the second year in a row to enable more robust project proposals that bring together neighborhood business interests around shared goals of improved design, promotion, and business resilience in a commercial area.

The following businesses and business associations have been selected as the 2019 Small Business Challenge grant recipients:

  • Cambridge Local First will use funding to launch an updated website that will support the organization's member recruitment and business promotion efforts.
  • The Central Square Business Association will use funding to develop a marketing booklet that promotes and highlights the Business Improvement District (BID) formation efforts in Central Square.
  • The East Cambridge Business Association will use funding to develop a catalog of professional and branded photos for use in promoting East Cambridge and Inman Square.
  • The Harvard Square Business Association will use funding to refresh existing outdoor cafe tables and chairs for public use in Harvard Square.

Projects will be implemented by the end of May 2019. To learn more about the Small Business Challenge, visit cambridgema.gov/SBC.
