Cambridge Begins Community Engagement for North Cambridge Paths

Join the planning team for tours of Linear Park and the Danehy-New Street Connector

The Cambridge Community Development Department is seeking community input for two projects in North Cambridge: redesigning Linear Park and creating the Danehy Park-New Street Connector Path. We are beginning a community process to develop design plans for these path projects. We would like to hear your ideas.  

The overall goal of the Linear Park redesign project is to enhance the space for the community. We aim to improve the park to make it an enjoyable place to visit and pass through.

Members of the planning team, Charlie Creagh and Gary Chan, will lead site walks of the two locations on May 5, 2022 (rescheduled from May 4). The tour of Linear Park will begin at 5 p.m. and the tour of the Danehy Park Connector site will begin at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The tour is accessible to people using mobility devices, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas.

Some objectives of the Linear Park redesign project are:

  • improve landscaping and drainage with new plantings and trees
  • widen the path where possible
  • replace lighting where needed
  • include public art in the redesign

The goal of the Danehy-New Street Connector Path is to create a multi-use (walking, biking, etc.) path between Concord Avenue and Danehy Park. This proposed path will make it easier to get to many destinations in North Cambridge: Danehy Park, Fresh Pond Mall, residential buildings on New Street, and the Watertown Greenway.

  • We will also look at opportunities for:
  • landscaping and tree planning
  • lighting
  • seating
  • public art

The City will work with HDR, Inc. and Halverson Design Partnership to help plan and design the paths.
