Inman/CAST II
Inman/CAST II Apartments provides affordable housing to a diverse population of very low, low and moderate-income households. The successful purchase, preservation, and renovation of these two properties in 2011 was made possible through a coordinated effort among Homeowners Rehab Inc. (HRI), the City, Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust, Cambridge Housing Authority, the former owner, tenant advocates and, most importantly, the tenants. Facing the potential loss of this important affordable housing resource as the end of the properties’ affordability restrictions approached, tenants came together with HRI, the City and other public funders to implement a plan which permanently preserves affordability of all 125 units.
Inman Square Apartments, a 116-unit 13-story apartment building on Cambridge Street, includes 18 duplex townhouses, as well as a roof terrace, and small outdoor space right in the middle of Inman Square. CAST II Apartments, a 9-unit historic brick building is located on Columbia Street directly across from Clement Morgan Park, and within close proximity to the amenities of Central Square.
The preservation of these important housing resources was a significant accomplishment and will ensure that both buildings will remain available for current and future low and moderate income residents.
