Lincoln Way

Lincoln Way

In 2013, the Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA) completed the revitalization of Lincoln Way Apartments. The buildings, constructed in 1950, were in need of significant repair and modernization. The solution was to rebuild the entire development to improve design features like living space functionality and energy efficiency. This was made possible with a commitment of Community Preservation Act funding from the Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust which was combined with funding available through the Federal ARRA and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Lincoln Way revitalization project includes demolition of all seven existing structures and construction of six new 3-story buildings containing 70 row house, duplex and flat apartments. The new buildings contain a new community center, management office, and maintenance shop. The development is being constructed to comply with "Green Communities" criteria, including sustainable design features, a renewable energy component, and compliance with Energy Star energy efficiency standards. The new design will allow for efficient and economical management and maintenance of the property and units.

Phase 1 was completed in 2012 when 37 families moved into new apartments. Phase 1 also includes a tenant council office and a resident community garden. Phase 2 is was completed in summer of 2013 when 33 additional units were ready for occupancy.

All phases of the project were completed and all units occupied in 2013. No further updates will be made to this project page.
