Winn Development Company, the owner of Walden Square Apartments, a 240-unit affordable development in North Cambridge, is proposing the new construction of approximately 100 new affordable rental units on the existing Walden Square site. Winn Development Company also anticipates making site upgrades to improve pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular connectivity. 

Winn plans to create this new housing under provisions of the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO). 

 

Winn Development completed the AHO process in July 2024.

Existing Site: The existing Walden Square apartments consists of six separate building containing a total of 240 apartments. 
 

Proposed New Construction: 

  • Construction of 95 new affordable rental units on a portion of the existing 7.32-acre site
  • Mix of unit sizes including a large number of family-sized units
  • It is anticipated that all of the new apartments will be affordable to households earning at or below 60% Area, with a portion to be set aside for households earning at or below 30% AMI
  • Site upgrades to improve pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular connectivity, and open space
