The design of the park is largely based on comments received at the public meetings, as well as public feedback through letters, emails, site visits, telephone conversations, and a park questionnaire.
This park renovation project also involved extensive coordination between The Community Development Department and several other City Departments including: The School Department, The Department of Public Works, The Recreation Division of Human Services, The Electrical Department, and the Disability Commission. Construction of the new park took place during the Summer and Fall of 2007.
The new Father Callanan Playground includes new features and improvements such as: a new 5 to 12 year-old play structure and swings near the school building, a new separate and enclosed under 5 year-old play area on the nearby section of field (each play area will have its own separate water feature), a new paved play space featuring a full basketball court, marked paved areas suitable for other hard surface play, and two half basketball courts with a shared backstop.
