Construction Notice: Dana Street Water Main Shutdown

On Tuesday, March 18^th, Newport Construction, in conjunction with The Cambridge Water Department, will be performing water main work on Dana Street between Cambridge Street and Broadway from 9 am – 2 pm.  During this time there will be a temporary water service interruption to facilitate upgrades to the water main on Dana St., and you will have no water to your property.

We will try to expedite this work to minimize the time the water will be shut down. Please take appropriate steps to store water for your anticipated needs during this time. 

Please note that this scheduled water shutdown is subject to change due to weather and other variable conditions which may arise. You will be notified as soon as possible if this work is to be rescheduled or extended.

Also note that after the water is restored, you may notice some discoloration. We recommend running your cold water until it is clear before consumption or doing laundry.

Construction Notice: Contractor to mobilize the week of February 24th

As part of the Centre Street and Dana Street Reconstruction Project, the City’s contractor, Newport Construction, will begin mobilizing the week of February 24. Crews will begin by installing tree protection and saw cutting the roadway in preparation for the beginning of utility work. Dana Street and Centre Street are part of the City’s 5-Year Plan for Street and Sidewalks which includes paving, sidewalk improvements for accessibility, traffic calming elements and utility installations for improved roadway drainage.

Detours will be in place during work hours. Please look for Detour signs, Road Closed signs, and No Parking signs as they will be changing frequently during the work.

What to Expect During Construction:

• General work hours will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
• “No Parking” signs will be posted; please be sure to check dates/times.
• Vehicle access in and out of properties will be maintained but may be restricted for short periods.
• Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and City services.

The drainage and utility work is expected to take 4-6 weeks, weather permitting. An additional notice will be sent to residents announcing the start of street and sidewalk reconstruction in the coming months.

This contract has been awarded to Newport Construction. This contract has 6 streets and construction is anticipated to begin Fall 2024.

We encourage you to attend, as we value the feedback, we receive from Cambridge residents and businesses.

The presentation will be posted to the project page after the meeting on Thursday, November 30th so that residents can submit questions, if they wish. The project page also contains video of previously held community meetings for those interested in viewing prior to this meeting.
