Construction Notice: Drainage Work to Begin Week of September 23
As part of the Green Street Reconstruction Project, the City’s contractor, Newport Construction, will begin mobilizing to start drainage work on Green Street the week of September 23rd, 2024. Crews will work primarily between Pearl St and Landsdowne St .
Newport has installed tree protection along the street and will be performing survey and layout work, saw-cutting areas of the roadway, and delivering drainage structures to the site this week.
The Green Street Reconstruction Project is part of the City’s 5-Year Plan for Street and Sidewalks and will include paving, sidewalk work, and pedestrian ramp installations.
Detours will be in place during work hours . Please look for Detour signs, Road Closed signs, and No Parking signs as they will be changing frequently during the work.
What to Expect During Construction:
Work hours will be 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday-Friday .
“No Parking” signs will be posted; please be sure to check dates/times.
Vehicle access in and out of properties will be maintained but may be restricted for short periods. If you need access and your driveway is blocked, please speak to a crew member on site and they will make accommodations for you.
Emergency vehicles will always have access.
Once the drainage work is complete, an additional notice will be sent to residents announcing the start of street and sidewalk reconstruction in the coming months.

The Department of Public Works and the City’s Community Development Department will be hosting a virtual community meeting on Thursday, November 10th from 6PM-7:30PM to discuss the Green Street Reconstruction Project.

At this meeting City Staff will present DRAFT final design plans developed from community feedback and engineering standards. The project is part of the City’s Complete Streets initiative to design and operate streets that are safe for all users including pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and public transit users. We encourage you to attend, as we value the feedback, we receive from Cambridge residents and businesses.
The presentation will be posted to the project page after the meeting on Thursday, November 10th so that residents can submit questions, if they wish. The project page also contains video of previously held Green Street community meetings for those interested in viewing prior to this meeting.
