Longwood Medical Area Shuttle

October 13, 2015 --- You may have seen those shiny blue Longwood Medical Area (LMA) buses on Massachusetts Avenue and wondered what they are and if you can ride them.

The buses are operated by the Medical Academic and Scientific Community Organization (MASCO) to help LMA employees travel to and around the LMA. The buses are operated by Paul Revere Transportation and serve nearly 12,500 riders each day over ten different routes.

One of the LMA shuttles – the M2 route – travels between Harvard Square and the LMA via Massachusetts Avenue, with stops at Harvard Square, Central Square, MIT, Kenmore Square, the Fenway Green Line subway station, and various locations in the LMA.

The general public can ride the M2 shuttle by purchasing tickets—cash is not accepted on board. A ticket to ride cost $3.25.  Single or 10-ride tickets can be purchased at Harvard University’s Smith Campus Center and at various locations in the LMA.  The City of Cambridge is happy to announce that tickets can also now be purchased at Cambridge City Hall, at the Finance Department cashiers window located on the first floor.  Tickets can be purchased by cash or check.

The City encourages the use of transit and other ways to get around by not driving alone.  Having M2 tickets available at Cambridge City Hall provides another convenient option for getting around for City of Cambridge employees, residents, visitors and others in the Central Square area. The M2 shuttle is fully accessible for persons with disabilities, as is Cambridge City Hall.
