Bicycle Education

Community Development

The City offers bicycle education workshops throughout the year. The workshops are free to those who work, live, or study in Cambridge, and every participant receives a free helmet each year. Bicycle education is an important part of the City's mission to encourage sustainable transportation and ensure that people know how to bike safely. It's also a key component of the City's Vision Zero strategy, which seeks to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy, and equitable mobility for all.

What Types of Bicycle Education Workshops Does the City Offer?

What are the Rules of the Road for People Biking in Cambridge?

People biking must obey all traffic signs and signals. When biking on the street, cyclists must follow the same traffic rules as people that are driving. Cyclists may ride on the sidewalk outside of business districts, but only at a walking pace and they must always yield to pedestrians.

What is the Cambridge Safe Routes to School Program?

Cambridge Safe Routes to School (SRTS) offers bicycle and pedestrian education to all 2nd grade and 6th grade students in the Cambridge Public School system. The training builds students' traffic safety skills and helps them navigate the city safely by foot or bicycle. It also teaches them why walking and bicycling benefit their health and the environment.
