About the Recycling Center

The Recycling Center is located at 147 Hampshire St. in the back right corner of the Public Works yard. It is a safe and efficient way to collect many items that are not accepted in curbside recycling. Open to all Cambridge residents.

The hours of operation are: 

Tuesdays, 4PM-7:30PM

Thursdays, 4PM-7:30PM

Saturdays, 9AM-4PM

Get Rid of It Right

Accepted Items:

  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Mercury items (thermometers, thermostats)
  • Non-Alkaline Batteries
  • Electronics (small appliances, computers, cell phones, string lights, and other small electronics). Find out if the Recycle Center accepts your electronic item by using the "Get Rid of it Right" tool.
  • Plastic Bags - See here for which types are accepted
  • Books
  • Three-Ring Binders (one inch width, excellent condition)
  • Scrap Metal Items - no sealed containers, no appliances
  • Bulky plastics (laundry baskets, pails)
  • Printer Cartridges
  • Blue Cart Recyclables (paper, metal cans and foil, cardboard, plastic containers)
  • Motor Oil - (Bring in sealed, marked container. Leave in caged area under parking shelter by corner of Tremont & Hampshire Streets)
Items NOT Accepted
  • Trash
  • Propane Tanks (HHW events)
  • Alkaline Batteries (Trash) 
     
Businesses and Non-profits
The Recycle Center is open to Cambridge residents, small businesses and non-profit organizations in Cambridge with 50 employees or fewer. Please contact DPW if you plan on bringing more than 50 items for disposal at the Recycle Center.
