Looking for a fun event during April vacation week? We'll be providing the opportunity to meet Officers, firefighters, paramedics and dispatchers, participate in demonstrations, learn about the newest public safety equipment, try on gear, and receive free swag. As part of the Cambridge Science Festival, Cambridge Public Safety Agencies will once again be hosting the popular and FREE “The Science Behind Public Safety” event on Wednesday, April 17th from 10-2 p.m. at the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility. Children, families and other participants will have an opportunity to meet and hear from representatives from the
Cambridge Police Department,
Cambridge MA Fire Department, Emergency Communications, Animal Control,
Pro EMS and
Massachusetts State 911 Department. They’ll also be able to take part in a number of demonstrations:
• Observe a jaws of life mock emergency rescue*
• Learn how the Cambridge Police processes a crime scene*
• Use robotics to detect explosives
• Learn how to conduct CPR
Other on-scene public safety tools and technologies will include radar and LIDAR traffic systems, crime analysis systems, drug testing kits, a Narcan station, the 9-1-1 and dispatch process, and more. Multiple units within the Departments, including the Cambridge Police Explosive Ordinance Unit and their K-9s, Special Response Team Unit, Traffic Unit, Crime Analysis Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Crime Scene Services Unit and Community Services Unit, will be on-scene.
Finally, fire trucks, police cruisers, ambulances, the State 911 van, and other public safety vehicles will be on-scene showcasing in-vehicle technology and other apparatus. Participants can climb in each of the vehicles and take photos of and with them.

The Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility is located at 125 6th Street in Cambridge, which can be easily accessed via the Red Line Kendall/MIT Station and the Green Line Lechmere Station.
