Is there a new title you think we may have missed?
The professional staff at the Cambridge Public Library base their purchase decisions on a number of factors. Some of those include:
- Positive reviews in professional sources
- Credentials of the author
- Community interest
- Scope of the book relative to the mission of public libraries
- Cost
- Availability in the network
- Availability to purchase through our contracted vendors
Self-published books may be acquired when they include unique local content or meet the selection criteria for collection development.
Please provide a valid Minuteman Library Card for purchase consideration. Requests submitted without a valid library card number will not be considered.
Titles more than twelve months old are usually appropriate to pursue through the 6.5 million titles of the Minuteman Library network, the Commonwealth Catalog, or Interlibrary Loan. However, there are exceptions; please be sure to include your reasoning. Our full Collection Development Policy is available online.
We are unable to respond to requests for purchase for eBooks and eAudiobooks. Those will be passed along to the Minuteman Library Consortium for network consideration. Please note we also won’t respond to requests to purchase for magazines as those are reviewed once yearly for consideration.
