Cambridge Open Data Department to Host Hands-On Public Workshop

The Cambridge Open Data Department will host a hands-on public workshop on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Rossi Room at the Main Library, 449 Broadway. We welcome everyone interested in learning more about finding and using the City’s data. Come learn about the kinds of data we have, how to access it, and what you can do with it.

Who should attend?
Anyone interested in learning more about the Open Data program, the data the city offers, and how to access and use city data.

What will I learn?

• What is the Cambridge Open Data program?

• What kinds of data can I access on the city’s Open Data Portal?

• How do I navigate the Data Portal?

• How can I filter data to answer my questions?

• How can I create visualizations of the data like charts and maps?

• How can I use AI tools like ChatGPT to analyze Cambridge datasets?

What are the prerequisites?
Everyone is welcome! No special computer or data expertise is required. The only requirement is curiosity about Cambridge Open Data.

This is a hands-on course: we will provide Chromebook laptops, or you may bring your own device.

If you are interested in more advanced training, please let us know. We’d be happy to provide that as well!

When and where?
Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 6 p.m. in the Rossi Room at the Main Branch of the Cambridge Public Library (you’ll see it as soon as you walk in).

We anticipate the class itself will take 60 minutes, but we have reserved the room for an additional 30 minutes to answer any other open data questions you might have and to provide personalized support.
