Cambridge Passes Landmark GHG Emission Reduction Policy

Since 2014, through the Building Energy Use Disclosure Ordinance (BEUDO), the largest buildings in Cambridge have been required to report their annual energy and water data to the city. On Monday, June 26th, City Council voted to amend the Ordinance to include Building Performance Standards for the majority of properties that are subject to the ordinance. Large commercial properties (100,000 square feet or larger) will be required to meet Net Zero Emissions by 2035, while smaller commercial properties (between 25,000 and 100,000 square feet) will have until 2050 to reach Net Zero Emissions. Residential buildings were excluded from emissions reductions requirements. Full text of the amended ordinance can be found here.
