The recruit training schedule has been very busy. On a typical day, there will be a PT (physical training) session and a classroom lecture.
The class is then divided into several sub-groups to participate in hands-on, practical training stations. Depending the day, these may include timed PPE (personal protective equipment) donning, ground ladder deployment & climbing; hose deployment from the apparatus; hose handling in the drill yard; nozzle ops and control; identification & working knowledge of hose appliances and tools; tying and hauling of tools and equpment; use of SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus); search and rescue for potentially trapped victims; and much more.
There are 20 recruit firefighters in the class, 12 from Cambridge Fire and 8 from Brookline Fire. Graduation is tentatively scheduled for May 10th.
Several photos show the various firefighting disciplines.
