On Friday, May 10th, 20 recruit firefighters graduated in a nice ceremony at Boston College's Ellsworth Hall in Brookline. Family, friends, firefighters, and guests were in attendance. The class started on March 4, 2024, and after ten weeks of intense training, 20 firefighters graduated. Twelve of the graduates are from Cambridge Fire and eight are from
Brookline Fire.
Prior to the 10 weeks of fire training, the class members participated in 1 week of orientation & emergency medical training.
Training was both classroom and hands-on and included hose handling, pump operation, water supply, ground & aerial ladder ops, tying & hauling of equipment, use of SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus), TIC (thermal imaging camera), search & rescue, firefighting, hi-rise ops, vehicle extrication, water rescue, hazardous materials ops, and much, much more. Graduates will be nationally certified as Firefighter I/II.
Congratulations to all on a job well done. It was a great accomplishment. These graduates, now FFOPs (Firefighters on Probation), were deployed to fire companies to fill existing vacancies, starting
on Sunday, May 12th.
