The View from Station 4

Protecting North Cambridge!

Starting our Monday morning, June 24th, the First Week of Summer - 2024: At 530 a.m. in North Cambridge at the quarters of Engine 4 & Squad 4, the temperature was 72 degrees with 85% humidity & a slight breeze.

Coincidentally immediately after the fire house photos were taken, both Engine 4 & Squad 4 were dispatched to an emergency call in the district. In the second two photos, Engine 4 is shown backing into quarters, ready for the next run, just before 600 a.m, on June, 24, 2024. Group 1 on duty.

Horse-drawn Engine Company No. 4 moved into this "new" fire house at 2029 Massachusetts Avenue in North Cambridge in November of 1896. Engine 4 was established in March of 1871 in a fire house at Massachusetts Avenue and Russell Street.

Actually there was another Engine 4, a hand-drawn & hand operated pump, "Hydrant 4," which was in service from 1846 to 1866.
